Neurodiversity, and specifically autism, has been a key part of the inclusion work of Investment20/20 over the last two years. According to the ONS’s report on ‘Outcomes for Disabled People’, only 29% of autistic people are in full- or part-time employment, among the lowest rates of employment of all disabled groups.
Whilst autism presents differently in each person, there can often be some common strengths, including attention to detail, high levels of integrity, learning information quickly, punctuality, being able to concentrate for long periods of time, different approaches to problem solving, among many other attributes.
The investment management sector has taken steps to reduce barriers to employment for people with autism by partnering with Investment20/20 and Ambitious About Autism.
"We are delighted to be working with Investment20/20 and leading investment firms, to offer autistic young people rewarding paid internships. Only 29% of autistic people are in full-time employment so initiatives like this are invaluable in giving young people the opportunity to explore career paths. So far in 2022, we have had four autistic interns join three firms, with another two interns due to take this exciting next step later in the year. We’re looking forward to developing our partnership and building further relationships in the investment management sector."
