Engaging schools, colleges, and universities is a critical part of an early talent attraction strategy, building awareness and developing a future talent pipeline. The Careers and Enterprise Company Employer Impact Survey 2021 found that by working with schools and colleges, employers strengthened their talent pipeline, increased the diversity of their workforce, and addressed skills gaps. Investment20/20’s talent outreach service provides members with a platform to build partnerships with education providers that reflect their equity, diversity, and inclusion priorities, whilst driving potential candidates towards trainee and apprenticeship opportunities.

The key to building a pipeline of diverse talent into the industry is to educate early. Through our partnership with Investment20/20 we have been able to reach underrepresented talent that frankly may never have considered Asset Management to be a place for them. Through our recent student days in our London and Edinburgh offices, we were able to showcase the breadth of career opportunities available and that there really is a place for everyone in this industry.

To ensure equity in the application process, the growing emphasis on diversity and inclusion necessitates a nuanced approach to recruiting that embeds support from the pre-entry stage. For some potential candidates, there is a gap between discovering a vacancy and having the confidence and skills needed to make an application. Our outreach workshops fill that gap, and demand remains high. Since 1 September 2022, we have seen over 15,000 students and delivered 194 career activities in schools, colleges, and universities.

We have all thoroughly enjoyed the outreach that Investment20/20 have offered The Norwood School this year. Students have benefitted from a wide range of high-quality careers related experiences, delivered both in school and offsite in the city, that have really broadened their understanding of asset management and how to approach careers in the industry. Staff who have delivered sessions have been reliable, have communicated well throughout and feedback from the students has been entirely positive.
